Writing style guide

This document is aimed at those who will be making contributions to the Cryosphere, such as adding new missions and zones. Given that you do not have build priviledges, this document is not likely to be of much use to you just yet.
This is a British mud, and regardless of protests from anyone who demands that we drag ourselves out of the dark ages and move to a more ‘modern and progressive’ style of spelling and grammar (i.e. US ‘English’) we are not going to change.

You must follow these basic rules:

* Use British spellings, except for quoted text that would be in American spelling (say, an American newspaper or signage). This means you will be using colour rather than color, and -ise (on words like neutralise) rather than -ize.

* Warship names should be of the form ‘HMS Blah’, not ‘the HMS Blah’. Consider what the HMS stands for. ‘the USS Blah’ is quite acceptable, though.

* We use ‘who’, rather than ‘whom’.

* No Oxford/Harvard commas. Lists are ‘a, b and c’ - not ‘a, b, and c’.

* Punctuation only goes within the quotation marks if it is part of the quoted text.

* ‘It's’ always means ‘It is’ or ‘It has`'. There is no exception. All other contractions must use the correct punctuation.

* Only one space after a full stop, none of that double-spacing yankish style.
