We have a (relatively) simple syntax that lets you add special words to your emotes which will be displayed in various useful ways to observers.
You can specify a target for the emote (and right now, only one target is allowed) by doing stuff like @person, where "person" is their name. Other words can then be used to refer to the target in magically formatted ways.
| @word: | target sees: | everyone else sees: |
| @me | Your Name | Your Name |
| @you, @<person> | you | Target Name |
| @my | his or her | his or her |
| @he^, @she, @they | you | he or she |
| @him, @her, @them | you | him or her |
| @his, @their, @your | your | his or hers |
| @hers, @theirs, @yours | yours | his or hers |
| @myself | herself | himself or herself |
| @himself, @herself, @themselves | yourself | himself or herself |
The emote system doesn't care if you get the gender wrong... you can use @he or @she interchangeably regardless of your target's gender, but the game will just display the gender-appropriate pronoun.
