Ganymede Convention
After the conflicts of the 2020s and the breakdown of the United Nations, a
successor was formed by the Ganymede Convention.
CONVENTION FOR PEACE AND SECURITY
Signed at Ganymede, 12 August 2027.
ENTRY INTO FORCE: 21 October 2027.
In order to promote interstellar co-operation and to achieve interstellar
peace and security by the acceptance of obligations not to resort to war by
the prescription of open, just and honourable relations between nations by
the firm establishment of the understandings of interstellar law as the
actual rule of conduct among Governments, and by the maintenance of justice
and a scrupulous respect for all treaty obligations in the dealings of
organised peoples with one another Agree to this Convention of the League of
Nations.
ARTICLE 132
All nations (or group of nations) undertakes to grant freedom of transit through
her territories on the routes most convenient for spatial transit; for this
purpose the crossing of territorial space shall be allowed. Such transports
shall not be subjected to any transit duty or to any undue delays or restrictions.
ARTICLE 247
By a date which must not be later than March 31, 2028, the military forces
of any nation may not comprise more than one hundred armed vessels, and any
number of unarmed vessels.
This fleet shall be devoted exclusively to the maintenance of order within
the territory and to the control of the frontiers.
ARTICLE 254
Until the completion of the minesweeping prescribed by Article 293 nations will
keep in commission such number of minesweeping vessels as may be fixed by the
League of Nations.
Nations are forbidden to construct or acquire any warships other than those
intended to replace the units in commission provided for in this Article.
The warships intended for replacement purposes as above shall not exceed the
following displacement:
"destroyer" type - 100,000 tons
"frigate" type - 60,000 tons
"corvette" type - 8,000 tons
"scout" type - 2,000 tons
The construction or acquisition of any "Stealth" vessels, even for commercial
purposes, shall be forbidden.
ARTICLE 293
All nations must keep the Sol system (and associated areas) free from mines.
